There's been a string of violent attacks going on along Market St. and throughout the area by groups of teenagers. Many of the perpatrators have been arrested. Still use caustion when walking, getting out of your car, etc.Here's a link to the article.

Thoughts on Patrolling

Angela and I just did a patrol tonight and we brought a couple trash bags. It's amazing how much trash gets thrown around our neighborhood. We walked from Chestnut to Walnut between Long Lane and Copley and we picked up three full trash bags full of trash and there still was more. I would like us to have another meeting and I was thinking of having it in the Hmart Food Court. They've got a lot of seating up there and we could all get dinner. We should plan a block clean up maybe for mid-April when it's spring and warm. In the meantime if you are going to patrol think about picking up some trash as you go along. I think people might be less likely to litter if they see we keep it clean in our neighborhood. Let me know if you would like a Block Watch Sign for your house. I still have a few and can get more any time.

Details From Our Last Meeting

Thanks to everyone for coming out to the Welcome Center this past Monday for our meeting. We went over the Organization Statement of Purpose and the Organizational Structure. We all agreed on the name PEACE for our block watch. Peace is an acronym for Positive Energy Achieves Community Endurance. This hopefully encourages others to get involved and to lend a hand in making our community stronger. We discussed the Quadrant Watch and the Website Calender. For those who did not make it to the meeting I would be happy to give anyone interested the handouts describing our organization and answer any questions. We handed out Block Watch signs which we can post in a window of our home. Soon we might get street signs! We also discussed having another meeting soon possibly at the Hmart food court. This would be more of an informal meet and greet. We could get some food at one of the restaurants and maybe talk about doing a Spring Clean (Block Clean up) around the neighborhood. Let me know what you guys think. I'd also like to go around and hand out the information to those in our area who did not attend the meeting. Let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas. Thanks again everyone.

PEACE Block Watch Meeting Monday, March 2nd 7pm.

Please come to our meeting Monday March 2nd, 7pm at the Welcome Center on Walnut St. across from the Sears parking lot almost at the 69th St. intersection. We will be focused on assessing our patrol scheduling. Please think about how you can contribute to our cause before the meeting. What is your daily schedule and how can you use your available time to help keep our neighborhood safe? Are you home during the day, do you walk your dog in the mornings or evenings, are you willing to do a patrol every now and then with one or two of your neighbors? These are all ways we can keep an eye out for one another. The Upper Darby Police are doing a fantastic job in apprehending criminals in our area but they can't be everywhere all the time. They need our help and we need theirs.
